As Christians we are made to feel that we must choose between our American civil rights or our Christian beliefs by many whose voices are loudest in the liberal media. On this day of celebration of the founding of our country I would like us all to be reminded of what those men who risked it all to establish a place where we could have freedom of speech said about some of the issues that we wrestle with today.
"Do not let any one claim to be a true American if they ever attempt to remove religion from politics." - George Washington
"It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded not by religionists but by Christians, not on religions but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ"-Patrick Henry, that patriot and Founding Father of our country
"We have staked the whole of all our political institutions upon the capacity of mankind for self-government, upon the capacity of each and all of us to govern ourselves, to control ourselves, to sustain ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God."-James Madison, the fourth president, known as "The Father of Our Constitution"
“ The general principles upon which the Fathers achieved independence were the general principals of Christianity… I will avow that I believed and now believe that those general principles of Christianity are as eternal and immutable as the existence and attributes of God.”- John Adams
“God governs in the affairs of man. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without his notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without His aid? We have been assured in the Sacred Writings that except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it. I firmly believe this. I also believe that, without His concurring aid, we shall succeed in this political building no better than the builders of Babel” – Benjamin Franklin, Constitutional Convention of 1787
Happy Birthday America, Thank You Father, for creating and building us a homeland.
