Exodus Member Ministry wins lawsuit out of court.
MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE, OCTOBER 27, 2006: Faith-based Love In Action International Inc. has agreed to a settlement that provides all of the relief they sought in their lawsuit. Pursuant to the agreement the state further agreed to pay the entirety of attorney fees incurred by Love in Action totaling $65,944.61. The lawsuit alleged that the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities overstepped their jurisdiction when they threatened the faith-based ministry with closure and violated the ministry’s civil rights and protections guaranteed by the 14th Amendment.
Says Rev. John Smid, President and CEO, “I am extremely pleased with the outcome of this case. We can now turn our full attention to our mission of helping struggling individuals and families in crisis.” Rev. Smid went on to say that people who desire help should not be denied faith-based options because special interest groups have a narrow agenda to push and do so by manipulating civil institutions in disregard of the law.
