Orlando, FL- November 6, 2006 Alan Chambers, President of Exodus International, released the following statement today after learning that the Rev. Ted Haggard, former pastor of New Life Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado, acknowledged sexual immorality in his private life:
"Exodus International is deeply saddened to learn that Pastor Ted Haggard has acknowledged moral failures in his personal life. While the consequences of such actions are justifiably grave, we reaffirm the bold love and forgiveness that Jesus Christ offers to each one of us as sinners in need of His grace.
"This admission reminds us all of our own spiritual and human weaknesses as well as the continued need for personal transparency and the accountability and care of others. No individual is above temptation and moral failure. No individual is excluded from the love and mercy of Christ. No individual should struggle alone in silence.
"Pastor Ted Haggard has been a loyal and vocal advocate for the compassionate truth of the Gospel and he has led many to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. It is our sincere hope that in time he will again be used mightily for the cause of Christ. Pastor Haggard, his family and his church in Colorado will be in our prayers in the days ahead."
