Despite the fact that the state of Florida does not allow same-sex marriage, or that the children involved in this case were the biological children of the mother and not related at all to her transsexual husband, or that the children themselves requested that they be allowed to live with their mother, in Feb. 2003, Pasco County Judge Gerard O'Brien presided over a child custody dispute and gave custody of the children to Michael (Margo) Kantaras, the transsexual husband. Last year an appellate court overturned the decision and last week the children were returned to the primary care of their mother, who originally decided to leave her marriage to Kantaras after becoming a Christian.
