One could not help but react with revulsion at Sunday’s Oregonian article documenting the history of alleged sexual abuse of children by a probation officer, a foster parent and some “friends.” Social workers who read the article must have grieved; knowing how completely betrayed these children, families and the public must feel. Children, at the edges of society, with intellectual and emotional challenges, unable to fully protect themselves, but mandated to comply with a state probation and foster care system that was abusing them.
