Jackie Carter used to hug young men as they cried from broken hearts
and died from AIDS. Gary Walker drank and womanized and played rock 'n'
roll on the radio until the day he felt a compelling joy, and scrounged
through his house for a Bible. Carter and Walker live in Wichita. So does Steve Jacobs, a real estate developer. And Sara Splichal,
who studied theology. And so does Titus James, a black Wichita minister. They live as our neighbors.
