N.Y. Judge: Same-sex marriage is not a fundamental right

A New York state judge rejects challenges to New York's Domestic Relations Law which only recognizes marriages between heterosexual couples.

A New York state judge Justice has ruled Thursday that Orangetown Town Clerk Charlotte Madigan acted correctly when she denied marriage licenses to 10 same-sex couples, which included Nyack Mayor John Shields and his partner.

The couples had filed suit to seeking to force Madigan to issue the licenses and to force the Health Department to recognize the licenses.

Shields said the judge made “a political decision rather than a decision for the civil rights of all people.” Weiner is one of the 13 candidates running for a 9th Judicial District state Supreme Court justice seat.

Justice Alfred Weiner upheld state Domestic Relations Law and ruled marriage licenses were only issued to heterosexual couples. He rejected arguments made by same-sex couples that the city and state violated their civil rights by denying the licenses. He said homosexuals have rights to marry, just not people of the same sex.

Pro-Family Calif. Group Allowed to Defend Traditional Marriage in Lawsuits

(AgapePress) - A San Francisco judge has given a pro-family activist group the legal standing to defend traditional marriage in California. A Christian attorney says the ruling ensures that all sides in the marriage debate will be heard in court.

In his ruling, Superior Court Judge Richard Kramer granted full party status to Campaign for California Families to defend state marriage laws in several consolidated lawsuits brought by homosexual activists. CCF because involved in the legal battle to defend traditional marriage earlier this year when San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom and his staff began issuing same-sex "marriage" licenses. This past August, California's Supreme Court said Newsom had no authority to issue the licenses to same-sex couples.

CCF will be represented in consolidated lawsuits by the Florida-based Liberty Counsel. Liberty president Mat Staver explains what Judge Kramer's ruling means.

The Gay Marriage Fantasy

It’s normal and healthy for people to engage their minds in a little fantasy every now and again, especially when those fantasies translate into goals, and those goals into positive and productive changes in the life of the dreamer and the world about us.
We can all think of examples.

But not all fantasies are equal. Some are far from normal, and if and when they translate into goals and changes, they hurt everyone around them.

Gay Marriage is such a fantasy.

Linda Nuttall, a mover and shaker in passing Texas’s 2003 DOMA legislation, and a staff writer at Defend Marriage, has permitted me to share with you her version of the gay marriage fantasy. Listen in and then consider some of the hard facts which back her assumptions (see footnotes below).

Three local experts tackled the controversial topic of same-sex marriage Tuesday evening, speaking from historical, ethical and spiritual perspectives.

The presenters included Mina Carson from OSU the history department, OSU philosophy professor Lani Roberts and Beth Crawford, a campus minister at the Westminster House.

The panel presentation, "Marriage Matters," was attended by nearly 100 students and sponsored by the LGBT Services Office as part of the ongoing programming for Queer History Month.

"The forum is for students who have not been given an opportunity to think about this issue," said Christian Matheis, LGBT Services Program Advisor. "It's essentially a social studies class being taught from three disciplines."

(AgapePress) - A conservative columnist says he is using the First Amendment to expose the personal ideological bigotry of a professor at California State University, Long Beach, and show that the so-called "Queer Studies" movement is a sham.

Cal State English professor Cliff Snider has come under fire for telling students they could not write argument papers on subjects like abortion, same-sex marriage, and other topics in which he says there is "no other side apart from chauvinistic, religious, or bigoted opinions and pseudo-science." Townhall.com columnist Dr. Mike Adams wrote a column criticizing Snider for his liberal bias, after which the instructor threatened to sue the conservative editorialist.

Snider charged that Adams had committed copyright infringement by "illegally" publishing portions of the professor's assignments. But the Townhall.com writer says Cal State-Long Beach's self-proclaimed "queer literary critic" needs First Amendment sensitivity training.

It’s never easy to swim upstream. That’s what many Christian therapists are discovering when it comes to debunking cultural myths about transgender issues.

But, according to at least three well-known experts, hope and healing are available for those who desire change.

The American Psychiatric Association identifies gender identity disphoria (G.I.D.) as a feeling of being the opposite gender or being trapped in the wrong kind of body. Characteristics often include a dislike of one’s genitals, one’s social sexual role and typical activities of the biological sex. The onset of G.I.D. typically occurs at a young age, often in children as young as three, and it is not uncommon for those suffering from the disorder to take on a demeanor that resembles the opposite sex.

Nothing caused more turmoil this summer in the U.S. Senate than the debate over the Federal Marriage Amendment. The phones rang continuously in every Senate office as impassioned citizens voiced their opinions on both sides of the issue.
What happened? Well, the first constitutional amendment of the 108th Congress to come to the floor without going through committee was never actually put to a vote.

Fifty voters or half of the senate cast their ballots against even having a vote on it, while 48 voted for it. This falls below the 60 who must first agree to have a vote on the bill itself, not to mention the 67 that have to vote for it in order for it to pass.

Now 50 plus 48 equals 98. Ok, so that means that two of our esteemed senators, in whom we place more power than any elected official, save the commander in chief, chose not to exercise their right to vote.
