PHILIPSBURG, St. Maarten, Thurs. June 3: A rally is set for June 13 in St. Maarten, by the Saint Martin United Ministerial Foundation, to state its opposition to same-sex marriage in Dutch Caribbean territories.
SMUMF is also asking churches in the Netherlands Antilles to set aside June 13 as a special day of prayer.
The foundation fears that the issue of same sex marriage will be forced down the throats of the people of St. Maarten through a decision to be handed down by a judge in Curaçao on June 16, Daily Herald reports say.
The rally will be held three days prior to a court ruling on a lawsuit filed by two men in the Netherlands Antilles' Court of the First Instance last year. The two are suing the government of Curacao for refusing to recognize their marriage, which happened in 2002 in the Netherlands, where same-sex marriage is legal.
