(CNSNews.com) - Thousands of churches will participate in an event called "Marriage Protection Sunday" on July 11, a pro-family group announced.
That will be followed by "Call Your Senator Day" on Monday, July 12 -- the day the Senate is scheduled to take up the Federal Marriage Amendment.
The American Family Association is urging pastors "to lift up the God-ordained institution of marriage in their sermons" on July 11 -- and "to present the serious threat which homosexual marriage presents."
In addition, pastors and Sunday school classes "are urged to pass out sheets containing information on how to contact your Senators.
"Many Senators are willing to let a single activist federal judge declare all marriage laws void and homosexual marriage legal," said Donald E. Wildmon, founder and chairman of the American Family Association. "We must not allow that to happen. It will happen unless God's people take action," Wildmon said in an "action alert" to supporters.
Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) has scheduled debate on the proposed Federal Marriage Amendment to begin the week of July 12.
