On March 26, Slate online magazine issued the following correction:

"A March 12 "Sandbox" about gay parenting stated that the same percentage of young adult children of homosexual and heterosexual mothers identified themselves as gay, lesbian, or bisexual. In fact, the researchers found that two out of 25 adult children of lesbian-headed households identified as gay or lesbian, compared to zero out of 20 children of straight mothers—a statistically insignificant difference."

Developments in Massachusetts and Kentucky point to the probable shape of things to come in the same-sex marriage debate in America. As momentum towards homosexual marriage builds, defenders of traditional marriage are forming resistance movements to counter the tide, but with mixed success.

As the proposed Federal Marriage Amendment slowly winds its way through the legislative process, the real action is now in the states, with over twenty of the states currently considering constitutional amendments to prevent legalization of same-sex marriages.

The Massachusetts legislature yesterday passed an amendment to the state constitution that has both sides of the homosexual "marriage" issue angry. One pro-family group says the actions of the lawmakers on "Black Monday" are a form of blackmail -- and another calls the decision merely "counterfeit protection" of marriage.

On Monday, the Massachusetts state legislature agreed to let the people of the Bay State decide the issue at the ballot box by approving or voting down an amendment to the state constitution. As written, the amendment protects traditional marriage as the union of one man and one woman while allowing for same-sex "civil unions." An excerpt of the amendment reads as follow

(CNSNews.com) - The Massachusetts Constitutional Convention Monday voted for an amendment that would create civil unions if the state's residents vote to protect marriage.

Concerned Women for America, the nation's largest public policy women's organization, denounced the vote, calling it "counterfeit protection," because although it bans same-sex "marriage," it automatically grants civil unions to homosexuals, instead of allowing state residents to vote on each of those issues separately.

(CNSNews.com) - Proponents of an attempt to include "sexual orientation" as a U.N.-protected human right have blamed an "unholy axis" of the Vatican and Muslims for jeopardizing the bid at the annual session of the U.N. human rights agency.

Homosexual activists are looking for a new champion after Brazil, which had sponsored the resolution, announced Monday that it was dropping it, for lack of sufficient international support.

Brazil said it feared a repetition of last year, when the measure ran into strong opposition from Islamic countries at the 2003 U.N. Commission on Human Rights (UNCHR) session in Geneva.

(CNSNews.com) - A pro-family group is calling on Congress to approve a federal marriage amendment, saying the Defense of Marriage Act is vulnerable to "activist judges."

The Family Research Council has placed a full-page ad in Roll Call on the same day the House Constitution Subcommittee holds a hearing on the issue.

"Back in 1996, most pro-family Americans thought the definition of marriage would be protected by the Defense of Marriage Act. In helping to draft the DOMA, FRC attempted to ensure that no state would be forced to recognize a same-sex 'marriage' consecrated in another state," said FRC President Tony Perkins.

BOSTON March 31 — Massachusetts' attorney general said a 91-year-old state law prevents the state from issuing marriage licenses to couples whose marriage would be illegal in their home state, an interpretation that could block gay couples from 38 states from tying the knot here.
Attorney General Thomas F. Reilly said Tuesday that when gay matrimony becomes legal in Massachusetts, it will apply only to Massachusetts residents and couples who live in states were no law expressly defines marriage as the union of a man and a woman.

BOSTON - Gov. Mitt Romney ran into resistance from his attorney general Tuesday after arguing that gay marriage should be put on hold for at least another 2 1/2 years now that lawmakers have backed a ban on same-sex weddings.

Legislators approved a constitutional amendment Monday that would ban gay marriages while legalizing civil unions. If passed a second time during the next session, the measure would go before voters in November 2006.
