On The Adam Carolla Show

Cross-posted at Exodus: Live Out Loud

We got a call from a radio producer who said, "We would like to interview Exodus about the Ted Haggard situation, and we need to do it right now 'live'."  The producer said that they were a CBS affiliate radio station covering Los Angeles, so we thought that it was CBS news type of affiliate and allowed them to rush us on the air.

Little did I know that it was this CBS affiliate station and that it was for the Adam Carolla Show.  I found out after I was already on the show.

Initially they asked what Exodus was about.  Then the host and comedian Adam Carolla started in with how he wanted to create a program to turn straight men gay.  He went on for a good minute or two about how overpopulated the world is and the fact that wherever gays live they make things prettier and clean.  He said, "so Randy, what do you think of my program to turn straight men gay?"  I responded that if he wanted to exploit this issue for personal gain it might work.

He told me to lighten up ... as if throwing barbs is only a one way street he can travel down.

He said, "now your organization doesn't force people to go straight do they?" and I said of course not, we help those with unwanted homosexuality live their lives congruent with their faith.  We respect self-determination.  He asked that twice and I responded with that answer twice during the course of the 12 minute interview.

He asked me if I thought gay people could go to heaven?  I said that if they trust in Christ to be Lord and Savior ... sure.  It's a basic Christian tenet that those who have faith in Him as Lord and Savior, they will be saved.  Adam and his sidekicks pushed it a little further so I continued and said that heaven will be populated by people saved from sin who place their trust in Jesus as Lord and Savior.  He said he thought that God would have a gay neighborhood in heaven and he wanted to live in that neighborhood.  It would probably be called "West Heaven."  He asked, "So Randy, do you think God will have a gay neighborhood?"  I responded, "I would encourage you to talk directly to Him about that possibility."

He did ask a little about my personal journey.  I said that it started 14 years ago.  I became a Christian because Christianity made sense to me.  I was honest about when my journey started that I didn't even want to be straight and I had a strong bias against Christians.  Eventually all of that changed and today I don't identify as gay and honestly do not struggle with same sex eroticism or romanticism.

By the way, I got over my bias against Christians a long time ago.  That's helpful considering I am one :).  I love the Church.

Adam did finally ask about Ted Haggard and if I thought Ted had a good chance to turn out straight.  I responded that I thought that now since he has confessed...Adam said,"after he was forced to confess.." I said, well yes... he was forced to confess, even so, if he continues to tell the truth and be honest I do think he has a good shot at successfully overcoming homosexuality.

Then Adam said that one of the people on his show was gay, toward the end (I think it was the same person) they said, "So Randy if you saw a picture of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie,  who would you be attracted to today? you can't tell me that you wouldn't be focusing on Brad Pitt ..."  I said, that fourteen years ago I would have been completely focussed on Brad Pitt but today I am focussed on my girlfriend here in Florida.  When I see a picture of Brad and Angelina I am usually reminded of his divorce and how sad that was."

Adam finished by saying something about how I am "aptly" named Randy. His sidekick on the show laughed so I am assuming that they are making fun of the fact that my name is used as a slang sexual term in Britain.

I forgive them, after all, they have an image to maintain.   At least they linked to us from the front page of their website.

Update: I had no idea that it was such a large show.  The Adam Carolla Show airs on FM Stations in Los Angeles, Phoenix, San Francisco, Portland, San Diego, Los Vegas, Sacramento, Seattle, Reno, Fresno and Palm Springs.

Update #2:  Apparently my recollection of the interview (the above paraphrase) cleaned it up a bit.  I said ummm too much and the gospel came through but not as strongly as I thought.  A Man On A Journey found the audio. Also, they dropped me from the interview before they said they didn't believe I wasn't attracted to men and how she was afraid of our message's affect on young people.  To bad they didn't give me a chance to respond.

On The Radio - J.T. Foxx Show

***Scroll Down For Update***

I will be on the J.T. Foxx Show Sunday (tomorrow).  It's on News-Talk WIND 560 AM station in Chicago.  You can listen live here.  I will be listening in around 8:30-ish am EDT CDT and will be on sometime in the 9 o'clock hour 8:45 CDT (it's only and hour long show.)  The first part of the show will have Shirley Phelps-Roper and a local politician who had a gay son who died of AIDS.

I have a feeling my heart is going to be broken on so many levels before I ever actually get on the show.

However, I am very excited that during the time that I am on there will also be a VERY popular gay blogger on as well.  I won't mention who it is until after the show.

***After the Show Update***

Well, Mrs. Phelps-Roper was still screaming whenever they called and plugged me in.  I was originally slated to be in the last 20 minutes of the show.  Her segment ran over for 10 minutes so when I finally got on it was very quick and brief.  The host was very gracious and basically described Exodus for the audience and asked me what I thought of the Phelps message.  I say what I usually say and think is important:  the Phelps crew and I do NOT serve the same God and it is obvious that they do not know the Christ I serve.

Exodus President on NPR & Janet Parshall's America Today

Alan Chambers, President of Exodus International, will be on two nationally syndicated shows with drastically different outlooks on the issue of homosexuality. National Public Radio's show Fresh Air with Terry Gross will interview Chambers on the topic of faith, sexuality and change. Chambers will also join Christian broadcaster Janet Parshall today to discuss the Foley scandal and the moral schizophrenia that exists in America.

Chambers notes that the ex-gay movement is growing and reaching greater, more diverse audiences through interviews such as these. Exodus International has added education and training programs for pastors, church leaders and youth workers desiring to approach this issue with compassion and biblical truth. Since its inception in 1976, the organization has grown to include more than 150 member agencies, therapists and churches within its network that offer help to the over 400,000 people who contact them each year.

Alan Chambers has recently authored the book God's Grace and the Homosexual Next Door — a guide to helping evangelicals reach out to hurting individuals in the gay community.

Scott Davis On Janet Parshall's America

Exodus Director on "Janet Parshall's America " to Discuss Homosexuality on the College Campus: A Student's Rights, A Christian's Compassion

Founded in 1976, Exodus International is the largest resource and referral organization dealing with homosexual issues in the U.S. and throughout the world. With over 130 ministries across North America , Exodus is a growing network of former homosexuals dedicated to sharing the transforming power of Jesus Christ.

Scott Davis will join Janet Parshall tomorrow at 2:15 p.m. EST on her syndicated show to discuss how secular and Christian colleges are handling the issue of homosexuality on campus.

Recently a Christian student at Georgia Tech, sued the school for the right to express her religious views about homosexuality when she was determined to be violating their tolerance guidelines. In addition, many Christian colleges have been dealing with visiting pro-gay activsts on their campuses. Soul Force, a pro-gay organization, is criss- crossing the nation visiting Christian schools “to challenge homphobia at the institutions largely responsible for GLBT (Gay Lesbian Bisexual Transgener) discrimination.”

Scott Davis educates and trains college and youth leaders on how to approach this issue with biblical truth and compassion. His goal is to see the evangelical church reach out to the individuals who secretly struggle with homosexuality as well as to educate others on the misinfo rmation that surrounds this tough topic.

State GOP Chair: So What If Keyes' Daughter Is Lesbian?

http://www.wbbm780.com/includes/news_items/news_items_more.php?section_id=9&id=4680

Tuesday, September 28, 2004, 4:17 p.m.

- CHICAGO -- Illinois Republican Party Chairman Judy Baar Topinka says candidates' children should be kept out of politics - whether it's Vice President Dick Cheney's lesbian daughter or Alan Keyes' daughter.

Topinka says even if the rumors about Keyes' daughter are true, so what?

"When it comes to kids, I say the same thing I said when we were talking about Vice President Cheney's daughter. The children of candidates, the children of office-holders just ought to be kept out of the discussion."

Reporters reminded Topinka that it was Keyes who gave his opinion on Cheney's daughter, implying Mary Cheney should be classified as a "selfish hedonist" with other homosexuals.

Specifically on the question of whether Alan Keyes' daughter is a lesbian, Topinka says she has heard rumors but she doesn't know anything about them.

Topinka says "however this may turn out, and I don't care, keep the kids out of it and leave them alone."

Defending Marriage is Malicious?

www.crosswalk.com

—Janet Parshall

A central issue in this year's presidential election will be the future definition of marriage. I was at the White House when the president announced that judicial activism had risen to such a crisis level, that only an amendment to the Constitution would truly protect the traditional and historic institution of marriage.

But an article has resurfaced that says John Kerry's opinion on marriage is dramatically different. Written in September of 1996 for The Advocate, a homosexual magazine, Kerry referred to the Defense of Marriage Act or DOMA as "unconstitutional and unnecessary." He also called it "mean-spirited and malicious."

DOMA, signed into law by President Clinton, prohibits so-called gay marriages in one state like Massachusetts from being recognized in other states that prohibit same-sex marriage. Kerry also urged gays and lesbians to "speak out" on DOMA and other issues.

Someone I Love is Gay featuring Bob Davies - Part II
Jun 24, 2004

Thursday, June 24, 2004 - Today on the broadcast our special guest is Mr. Bob Davies, the former North American Director of Exodus International-a worldwide coalition of Christian ministries to men and women overcoming homosexuality. Bob has first hand experience in this area as one who has struggled with homosexuality. Bob has been with us before on the broadcast sharing his wealth of experience ministering to homosexuals. He joins us again today to discuss the book, which he has co-authored with Anita Worthen ,titled Someone I Love Is Gay.

Behind every homosexual there's a story to tell, parents and loved ones who have struggled with this reality, a friend who feels disillusioned and afraid, perhaps even a spouse who suffers the ultimate sense of betrayal. And still God calls us to love. Sometimes that love wears different faces: tough when confronting sin, tender when ministering through the ravages of AIDS. Anita Worthen and Bob Davies have written a book which biblically and wonderfully balances that tough tenderness. We heard yesterday from Bob about the stages of grief though which an individual may go upon learning the devastating news that a loved one is involved in homosexuality. We talked about the causes of homosexuality which, despite what the secular media and the gay agenda may want us to believe, are more relational and environmental than genetic. We discussed the difference between love and approval, and we heard Bob tell us how to relinquish a loved one. Today Bob joins us again to continue this important dialogue.

A conservative political group has decided to launch a new weekly radio show devoted to discussing current events and conducting timely interviews "from a conservative Christian perspective."

The Washington-based Family Research Council (FRC) will officially begin a weekly half hour national radio program entitled "Washington Watch Weekly" on Saturday, June 19, 2004 at 7 p.m. EST on the American Family Radio network.

Co-hosted by FRC President Tony Perkins and FRC Vice President of Communications Genevieve Wood, they will talk about pro-family conservative topics as well as speak with like-minded members of government and other pro-family leaders.

"We are faced with a culture that is morally challenged," Perkins exclaimed. "It is challenged because we, as a country, have turned our back on the absolute truth that guided this nation from its beginning."

Alan Chambers Exodus PSA's airs around the country

The following is playing in almost all Christian markets around the country: Salem Broadcasting Network being one of them.

***begin***

My name is Alan Chambers and I am thankful for marriage laws. Here's
why:

When I was 18, I began trying to numb the pain and rejection in my life
through relationships with men. It didn't work and none of my
relationships ever lasted. I believed that I was born a homosexual and
that there was no other life for me to live.

After years of that, I wanted something more. With the help of
counselors, my friends, family and faith, I was able to work through the
deep wounds that led me to homosexuality in the first place. I finally
found the acceptance, hope and freedom I was so desperately seeking.

I am grateful for marriage laws that kept me from making more terrible
mistakes in my youth and preserved marriage as the unique relationship
that it is. In six years of marriage to my wife, Leslie, I have found
with her what I never could in all my years of homosexual life.

There are millions of young people just like me who are today, where I
was years ago. We must act now to preserve marriage for them.
Please call your senators and representatives today.

Moral Infamy

http://www.crosswalk.com/news/salemradio.html

May 17, 2004

—Albert Mohler

Like mile-markers in time, certain calendar dates stand in memory as not only historic, but transformative. Dates like December 7, 1941 and September 11, 2001 represent far more than mere days on a calendar. Now, May 17, 2004 must be added to that list.

Why? Because today--by the unilateral decision of activist judges--the state of Massachusetts has been forced to legally recognize same-sex marriages. This is a day that will live in moral infamy. Civilization itself has been attacked by forces that would redefine marriage, normalize homosexuality and transform our understanding of family, gender, parenthood and human relationships.

The attacks on Pearl Harbor, New York, and Washington awakened the nation to peril and called citizens to action. Americans must awaken once again--to the fact that an out-of-control judiciary has forced its will upon us and has redefined the fundamental unit of human civilization.

Michael Medved: Advocates for Traditional Marriage

http://www.crosswalk.com/news/1259214.html

Salem Radio Commentary

Advocates of same sex relationships regularly invoke the First Amendment—arguing that a definition of marriage deeply rooted in religion shouldn’t influence secular law.

They ignore the fact that even the most secular Americans still express strong opposition to the radical rearrangement of family institutions.

A late February Gallup Poll surveyed public opinion on the proposed Constitutional Amendment protecting the traditional definition of marriage. Not surprisingly, 63 percent of those who attend church every week supported the amendment.

But even among the least religious group—those who say they participate in services “seldom or never”—a surprising 42 percent wanted to change the Constitution to rule out a judicial mandate for gay marriage.

Gay Lobby Honors New York Times

"Gay marriage didn't just happen in Massachusetts. It was engineered by the Times."
By Cliff Kincaid | April 22, 2004

Ed Pawlick's new book, Libel, examines a new scandal haunting the New York Times. "Gay marriage didn't just happen in Massachusetts," he says. "It was engineered by the Times." But that's not a scandal for the paper itself. The Times promotes the gay-rights agenda and still claims to be fair and balanced on the issue. It also receives awards from the gay lobby, making a mockery of its own claims about covering this critical social issue in a straightforward and objective manner.

California Lawmakers Initiate New Effort to Legislate Homosexual Marriage

Apathetic Christians Partly to Blame, Says Conservative Radio Host
By James L. Lambert
April 8, 2004

(AgapePress) - California State Assemblyman Mark Leno, a Democrat from San Francisco, has put together a coalition of 20 State Assembly members to challenge the present wording of California law that defines traditional marriage. His proposal would eliminate the words "a man and a woman" from the law and replace it with "persons" in the state charter defining marriage.

If passed, Assembly Bill 1976 -- co-authored by Leno -- will effectively overturn Proposition 22, a measure that was approved by 4.6 million voters (61% of all California voters) four years ago. Proposition 22, which defines marriage as "between a man and a woman," was overwhelmingly approved in March 2000 by 62% of black voters, 65% of Latino voters, and 59% of Asian voters. The measure passed in 52 of 58 counties in the Golden State.

Los Angeles radio talk-show host Paul McGuire understands that liberal, homosexual activists like Leno will always be out there. In an interview this week McGuire conceded that "it is the job of the gay activists to be politically active. They are dedicated to their cause. They are committed to their cause."

FRC Action Launches Massachusetts Radio Ad Campaign

FRC Action - FRC's legislative action arm - launched a radio ad campaign today in the greater Boston, Massachusetts area, encouraging the public to rethink homosexual marriage and call their state legislators to vote yes for the Marriage Affirmation and Protection Amendment. The 60-second ads will run continuously through February 10 on five Massachusetts radio stations that extend beyond Boston to Springfield, West Yarmouth, Paxton and Cape Cod.

The ads, which feature a little boy asking his homosexual father where he came from, are designed to combat the Human Rights Campaign's pro-homosexual advertising and bring the Massachusetts public front and center with the issue of marriage as lawmakers prepare to vote on the Marriage Affirmation and Protection Amendment on February 11. "Call your legislator...tell them to let the people decide," says a narrator. To view a copy of the information kit given to lobbyists or to hear the radio ad, click onto the link below.

FRC Action Targets Boston Airwaves With Same-Sex 'Marriage' Ad Campaign

60-second ads will run on Boston stations up to the pivotal February 11th vote

WASHINGTON, D.C. - FRC Action, the legislative action arm of Family Research Council, today launched a radio ad campaign in the greater Boston, Massachusetts area, encouraging the public to call their state legislators and vote "yes" on the Marriage Affirmation and Protection Amendment. The amendment is an attempt to counter the state's Supreme Judicial Court, which recently decided 4-3 in favor of same-sex "marriage."

"Have you thought about where same-sex marriage may lead?"the ad's narrator asks. "Certainly teachers would have to teach that marriage has more than one option - but how many? What other marital relationships might be swept along with this tide?"

The 60-second ads, which will run continuously through February 10 on at least five major Boston-area radio
stations, feature a little boy asking his father where he came from. The boy is then told to go ask his "other
daddy." The radio spots are designed to bring the Massachusetts public front and center with the issue of marriage as state lawmakers prepare to vote on the Marriage Affirmation and Protection Amendment on February 11.
