Boy Scouts to be Evicted -- Unless they Renounce Policy on Homosexuality

From LifeSite:

The Philadelphia council of the Boy Scouts of America will lose the lease on its historic premises for its refusal to bow to pressure from the homosexual lobby to accept homosexual members and leaders. The city has told the Scouts they will be evicted if they cannot come up with US $200,000 a year "market value" rent for the land on which their building sits. Until now, the Scouts had paid a nominal $1 per year lease fee although the youth organisation had originally owned the premises in 1929.

The famous Beaux Arts style building was built and paid for by the Scouts, and turned over to the city with the understanding that the Scouts would be allowed to remain in it rent-free "in perpetuity."

City solicitor Romulo L. Diaz Jr. gave Philadelphia's "Cradle of Liberty Council" of the Scouts until Monday this week to renounce their policy.

Controversy Over Ex-Gay Singer on Obama Tour

From FOXNews:

Barack Obama trails Hillary Clinton among black voters but the entertainment planned for his upcoming African American gospel outreach project has another key liberal constituency — gays, lesbians and transgenders — outraged.

Obama has announced that he will include an openly gay minister in this weekend's event, but gay rights groups are still steaming about the inclusion of Donnie McClurkin in the "Embrace the Change" concert tour.

In a letter to Obama obtained by FOX News, the National Black Justice Coalition complains that Obama's concert is being headlined by "gospel music's most openly homophobic artists; the most volatile of which is the Rev. Donnie McClurkin."

"Your willingness to share a stage with Rev. Donnie McClurkin is alarming and, frankly, deeply disappointing. Rev. McClurkin has consistently disparaged gay men and lesbians, spread half-truths and unproven theories about our lives and has shown a willingness to work with those who would use the rights of gay Americans as a wedge issue to divide black families for their own cynical political objectives," wrote NBJC Chief Executive Officer H. Alexander Robinson.

Schwarzeneggar Signs Pro-Homosexual Bills

From LifeSite:

California Governor Schwarzenegger Veto of Gay "Marriage" Made Meaningless by Other Bills

SACRAMENTO, October 15, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - While most media coverage has been devoted to Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's veto of homosexual 'marriage', he has in fact nullified his own veto giving all the rights of marriage to other unions.  His opposition to the bill redefining marriage was based on the passage of Proposition 22 a referendum in 2000 which protected the traditional definition of marriage.

On Friday Gov. Schwarzenegger signed AB 102, which awards married names to unmarried couples. AB 102 allows homosexual couples to hold themselves out as married by permitting them to choose the same surname upon registration of their "domestic partnership." The bill awards unmarried couples married last names, such as "Mr. and Mr. Smith" and "Mrs. and Mrs. Jones."

"Schwarzenegger and the Democrat politicians have created the public image of homosexual 'marriages' in California," said Randy Thomasson, president of Campaign for Children and Families (CCF), in response to the signing of AB 102. "It's hypocritical for Arnold Schwarzenegger to veto homosexual 'marriage' licenses and at the very same time aggressively promote the public image of gay and lesbian 'marriages' in every community for every child to see."

In addition, Schwarzenegger signed AB 14, which requires more California businesses, as well as some churches and nonprofit organizations, to support and promote transsexuality, bisexuality, and homosexuality.

AB 14 prohibits state funding for any program that does not support transsexuality, bisexuality, or homosexuality. This means state-funded social services operated by churches and other houses of faith, which provide essential services to children and adults, could dry up.

Liberty Sunday Simulcast Post Update

Liberty Sunday Poster

Today I have written about the Liberty Sunday Simulcast press conference and a little run in with a Boston Herald reporter.  Tomorrow I will post about the actual simulcast itself. Until then, click on the picture and it will take you to a few of the pictures taken during our trip.

Liberty Sunday Press Conference

Who: Tony Perkins (Family Research Council), Alan Chambers (Exodus), Pastor Pendleton (Tremont Temple Baptist Church), David Parker, Robert Wirthlin, Kris Mineau (Massachusetts Family Institute), Bishop Harry Jackson (Hope Christian Church).

What: Press conference concerning Liberty Sunday Simulcast

When: 3:00 pm EDT, October 15, 2006

Where: Tremont Temple Baptist Church

Disclaimer: The following is simply notes and paraphrasing I (Randy) wrote down during the press conference.  Direct quotes are properly noted within the text.  Everything else is paraphrased and spring from my understanding of what the presenters said.

First up Tony Perkins with the Family Research Council.  Tony shares that he was very excited about tonight's simulcast.  the reason they chose Boston is because same sex marriage started in this state and what we see in its wake is the loss of religious freedom.  As they have condoned same sex marriage, the state condemns Christian expression in the public square.  He said that this press conference and the simulcast won't be just about organizational spokespersons.  The message will be brought by the people who have been detrimentally affected by the decision of four judges in Massachusetts.  A decision that is setting a dangerous precedent and conflict around the country.

Dr. Ray Pendleton Pastor at Tremont Temple Baptist Church stated, "We think it is important to uphold what is best for the culture and the country.  We want to speak what is truth, in love."

Letthepeople Kris Mineau, heads up Massachusetts Family Institute said something to the effect of tonight's events will help emphasize the point for the Mass legislature should finally allow the people of Massachusetts to speak for themselves instead of unelected judges ignoring the will of the people and speaking for them.

David Parker was up next.  His son, when  in kindergarten was given a diversity book-bag that indoctrinates children with beliefs about homosexuality that are  contrary to the beliefs of the parents and the welfare of these five year olds.  The rights of parents are being trampled for the rights of a rampant gay agenda.

David Parker quotes Robert Scutch,  the author of pro-gay children's book, "Who's a Family?" put in the "diversity book-bag":  Scutch states, "I wrote the book for children before they know that there is any other way."

David Parker continues, that the gay agenda is being promoted non-stop in many ways;  Day of Silence, Coming Out Day, High School students going to lower grades to talk about coming out and resources being made available to grade school and beyond.  Mr. Parker simply wants parents to be notified and given their right to opt out.  The Lexington school system will not notify parents.  Mr. Parker's conclusion is that where Religious liberty is compromised all liberties are compromised.  Parents need to take a stand for children around the country.  The ACLU is trampling on religious freedom and parents by helping the school system against the parents.

Rob Wirthlin is the father of a seven year old who, without Mr. Wirthlin's knowledge or consent, was read a book by his second grade teacher called King and King which is about romantic love between two princes who eventually marry. The Wirthlin's asked the teacher for a meeting but the night before that meeting, the principal called and intimated that the Wirthlin's had ulterior motives and she was gong to be there whether they wanted her to be there or not.  The Principal said that the Teacher said she chose the book specifically because she felt it was something that the little boys could relate too.    Mr. Wirthlin says, "I am standing for parents rights. Parents should be the ones who decide when where and how to approach these subjects with their very own children."

Tony Perkins announces Freedom Watch.  As long as liberty is in danger... FRC will keep watch and fight for liberty.

Alan Chambers was next.  Tony said that Alan was, "the most controversial speaker."  He said Exodus takes a message of hope across the country. There is a message of hope for the homosexual who wants to find freedom from homosexuality.   Tony said, "Those who are the trumpeters of tolerance have little tolerance for Alan's message."  Alan shared about how religious liberty is in danger as evidenced by the huge protest at last year's Love Won Out Conference at Tremont Temple Baptist church.  Close to two thousand people screamed, among other things, "Shut down Focus On The Family!" "Shut down Dr. Dobson!" "Shut down ex-gays!" "Shut down Tremont Temple!" no call for tolerance, just a desire to impose silence against those that disagree with the gay activists.  While it is important to fight for the preservation of religious liberties and important social issues, we must also have grace and compassion.  We must provide hope and help for those seeking freedom from homosexuality.

Tony Perkins says that the opponents say that religious conservatives use gay issues as wedge issues but Tony calls them a bridge issue.  There is no other issue (gay agenda) that has brought modern Christians together so well.  One of the side benefits of this unnecessary battle is an increasingly colorblind church.

Bishop Harry Jackson is the senior pastor of Hope Christian Church.  He gave a stirring history of black community struggling and leading the way to liberty. He states that the black pulpit in America has actually been the engine for the black community.  Black Pastors deserve to be heard and to have their voices count.  In the mid-term election you are going to see a growing union in the church and that is going to change the tide and turn back the gay agenda.  More than ever before you are going to see Values Voters show up and make a difference in America.

Afterward, the media questions were basic fact finding and not much else to report except one incident that deserves it's very own post.

Before closing this post however, I wanted to say that all the presenters were very calm, humble and eloquent.  My notes do not do them justice.  I also met Mr. Parker and Mr. Wirthlin after the press conference and I have to tell you, they are two very protective, humble and loving Dad's.  They were not activists before the Lexington School Board decided to usurp their parental rights but now that this school board has forced the fight... they will do whatever it takes to protect their children.  I genuinely enjoyed meeting these two men.

Also at the press conference, I met John Schroeder with Blogotional and Joe Carter with Evangelical Outpost.  These guys are serious bloggers and you really should check out their blogs on a regular basis. I truly enjoyed meeting them and discussing Christians, politics and blogging!  They were a lot of fun to meet.

Live Blogging Liberty Sunday - October 15th

I have been invited to live blog FRC's Liberty Sunday which is in Boston this Sunday October 15th.  The blogging will be done here at the Exodus: Live Out Loud Blog.  I will be posting off and on during the day.  There is a press conference and other events in the afternoon.  During the actual simulcast I will be posting "live" updates during the presentations.  Exodus President, Alan Chambers, will be one of the keynote speakers.

From the Liberty Sunday website:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof."

So begins the Bill of Rights with the first amendment to our Constitution--one that guarantees a God-given freedom. For over 200 years the light of the church has illuminated this freedom, but now a radical agenda seeks to extinguish that flame.

The expansion of non-discrimination laws to include homosexuality inevitably constricts our right to express and act on our religious beliefs. Recently, there has been a string of incidents involving government intolerance against those who live out their faith in the public square.

To respond to this growing threat, I'm pleased to announce that on October 15, 2006, FRC will host a nationwide simulcast from Boston, Massachusetts called "Liberty Sunday: Defending Our First Freedom." I invite you to join us as we examine the cultural and legal influences that threaten to erode religious liberties and muzzle free speech.

Exodus International Condemns Foley's Actions

Orlando, FL- October 4, 2006 Alan Chambers, President of Exodus International, released the following statement regarding former Florida Congressman Mark Foley's solicitation of an underage congressional page:

"Former Representative Foley's active attempt to exploit a 16-year old boy is ethically inappropriate and morally reprehensible. He should be punished to the full extent of the law and anyone found to have had prior knowledge of it should also face grave consequences. Such egregious abuse of authority transcends partisan loyalties and should not be manipulated for political gain.

"As someone who has experienced sexual exploitation and abuse, I know full well that the heartache and confusion will affect the lives of the victim(s) for years to come. We must decisively penalize sexual predators, clearly define healthy sexuality for our children and make preventing further abuse in our leadership and in our society a higher priority."

Founded in 1976, Exodus International is the largest resource and referral organization dealing with homosexual issues in the U.S. and throughout the world. With over 135 ministries across North America, Exodus is a growing network of former homosexuals dedicated to sharing the transforming power of Jesus Christ.

Foley Fiasco

By now I’m sure you have heard about the latest Washington scandal. Republican Congressman Mark Foley of Florida, long rumored to be a homosexual, suddenly resigned his seat in Congress late Friday afternoon after news outlets reported that he had been sending sexually explicit messages to teenage male pages.  This morning, Foley’s attorney announced that he has entered an alcoholic rehabilitation center.

The instant messages Foley sent were obscene and disgusting.  Resignation was the only appropriate response for someone who had so abused the public trust.  It is unconscionable that any person would attempt to sexually seduce a child, but given Foley’s position as co-chairman of the Congressional Missing and Exploited Children’s Caucus, this scandal is even more outrageous.  Ironically, the FBI has been called in to investigate Foley for possible criminal charges against Internet sexual predators based on a law he helped to write!

The Democrat leadership in Congress, leftwing blogs, and their media allies, not surprisingly, are taking the Foley scandal and attempting to use it to attack Republicans generally.  Democrat campaign committees are suggesting that the Republican leadership, including Speaker Hastert, knew
about this mess and didn’t do anything about it.  Speaker Hastert denies that.

All we know for sure is that some earlier e-mails judged to be “overly friendly” were known to some in Congress.  But the worst material, which was obscene and sexually explicit, was not discovered until last week.  It was that material which resulted in Foley’s immediate resignation.

Speaker Hastert sent a letter yesterday to the Department of Justice demanding a formal investigation of “any and all individuals who may have been aware of this matter—be they Members of Congress, employees of the House of Representatives, or anyone outside the Congress.”  We join him in that demand.  That investigation should examine anyone of any party since there are rumors today that some Democrat leaders also knew and chose to wait five weeks before an election for their own advantage.

Hypocrisy?

As I have written before, neither party has a monopoly on virtue or vice. As an evangelical Christian, I believe one of the central tenets of my faith is that all men are sinners, which is why we require the saving grace of the Son of God.  For those charging hypocrisy in the Republican Party, I would only remind them that Mark Foley has been forced out of the House, as he should have been.  In contrast, former Democrat Congressman Gerry Studds of Massachusetts remained in the House after admitting to homosexual conduct with a teenage page, and won reelection numerous times.  Rep. Barney Frank was implicated in a homosexual prostitution scandal run out of his house and continues to be a leader in the Democrat Party today.

One other point.  The national Democrat Party is strongly supported by the radical homosexual rights movement and organizations like the ACLU, both of which have consistently argued that age of consent laws should be dramatically liberalized so that what Rep. Foley was apparently trying to do would no longer be against the law or even considered shameful.  So, who is really engaged in hypocrisy in this controversy?

Bigger Picture

Let’s put politics aside for a second and look at what is happening to our country.  Our popular culture has for years been making children the objects of sexual desire.  Britney Spears dresses provocatively and within months countless ten year-old girls are running around dressed the same way.  Hollywood routinely exploits young children sexually, as does Madison Avenue.

Groups like NAMBLA, the North American Man-Boy Love Association, continue to be given positions in “gay rights” parades and, without shame, continue to promote their governing slogan, “Sex by eight or it’s too late.”  In addition, the entire culture, as well as many of our schools and universities, teaches the notion that there are no things such as right or wrong – that all these things are merely choices in the “lifestyle cafeteria.”  At the end of the day, our virtue deficit is going to lay us low long before our budget deficit does.

Bottom Line

This latest scandal in Washington is just further evidence that the pro-family agenda is desperately needed for the country.  We are the ones who have argued that human sexuality should be channeled through marriage.  We are the ones who have argued that marriage is between one man and one woman.  We are the ones who have argued that schools should teach kids how to read and write and stop handing out condoms and birth control pills.  We are the ones who say that all our children should be welcomed into the world under law.  We are the ones who say there are reliable standards of right and wrong.  And we are the ones who have led the charge against the sexualization of our children.

If the Foley scandal wakes up both parties to a need to rediscover the values of family and faith, then maybe something good can come out of this mess.

Values Voters Summit

Exodus brought a redemptive view of homosexuality to this years The Washington Briefing: Values Voters Summit.  At our booth we handed out plenty of informative material including general information about Exodus, testimonies and newsletters.  Person after person came up to us seeking prayer and ministry concerning their own struggles or their family member who identifies as gay.

The Washington Briefing is mainly about public policy concerning a broad spectrum of issues.  However, since the issue of redefining marriage into a gay worldview is of such importance (along with other gay-centric efforts in public policy), many leaders at The Washington Briefing have gone out of their way to welcome the Exodus message and bring a very important perspective to the table.  Our perspective includes preserving marriage, an extremely important social institution,  while reaching out with compassion.   Wherever, public policy affects the people we are ministering too, we will be there to offer a personal and redemptive view.

Included in the "continue reading" reading link below will be a couple of articles covering the summit and excerpts as they pertain to the battle over marriage.

California Bill Would Require Teaching of 'Gay History'

A new bill being considered by California's state senate would require public schools to  present history lessons which "accurately" present "the contributions of people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender to the economic, political, and social development of California and the United States of America." Some conservatives are reacting:

``We're totally opposed to inserting sexual orientation into textbooks in our schools. This is more than just accepting it, it's forcing our kids to embrace it, almost celebrate it,'' said Karen England, executive director of the public-policy group Capital Resource Institute, which believes teaching about sexual orientation should be left up to parents.

``This is not about discrimination. California is one of the most friendly gay, lesbian and transgender states in the nation,'' England said. ``This is a bold and out-front attempt to do what I think has always been the goal of a small but very loud group.''

The bill's author, Sen. Sheila Kuehl, D-Los Angeles, rejects the criticism. ``We've been working since 1995 to try to improve the climate in schools for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender kids, as well as those kids who are just thought to be gay, because there is an enormous amount of harassment and discrimination at stake,'' she said.

I wish there was more help for all students who are harassed and bullied for whatever reason. I don't think forcing a sexual ethic on young people is a legitimate way to do that. It's a disservice to adolescents to encourage them to attach a word like 'homosexual' or 'transgender' to themselves simply because they are experiencing confusion, isolation or longing for same-sex relationships.

And who is going to make sure this information is "accurate?" The task will probably fall to the GLSEN or the Gay and Lesbian Task Force. Don't get me wrong; I don't believe we should omit a certain person's contribution to society because they practiced homosexuality in their private life. But do their contributions stem from their sexuality?

I realize many movies, songs and writings which I've enjoyed come from people who were homosexual. I honor that person for the gift God gave them; I don't credit their sexual preference for that gift. Sadly, I've talked and corresponded with many young men who have been led to consider their affinity for art, dance or music as 'homosexual' traits. It's an indictment against our culture that we pigeonhole the masculinity of young men who are gifted in these beautiful ways.

When I was 'coming out,' there were members of the faculty at my school who encouraged me to embrace a homosexual identity, even to experiment sexually. While that gave me some short-term happiness and resolve, it ended up hurting me much more in the long run.

Furthermore, Senator Kuehl has already demonstrated a commitment to the radical fringe of the pro-homosexual movement. She recently sponsored a bill which would have potentially required schools to provide 'gender-neutral' bathrooms and remove 'gender-biased' terms like Mom and Dad from school text books.

San Francisco Leadership Decries Youth Purity Movement

On March 27, twenty-five thousand Christian youth rallied in San Francisco to 'retake the culture' from "Corporations, media conglomerates and purveyors of popular culture [who] have spent billions to seduce and enslave our youth,” as the event website says.

The rally was part of a project called Battle Cry for a Generation. Its aim is to inspire youth to rebel against the rapidly disintegrating culture of the sexual movement. 18-year-old Amanda Hughey said, "Life is not MTV, and if we continue to live like we’re starring in those outrageous music videos, our generation is doomed."

While the whole theme of a 'Battle Cry' seems a bit strong to some, consider what force it must take for a young person to stand against the onslaught of manipulative, seductive imagery and information thrown in their faces every day. It's gone far beyond R-rated movies and cable shows. Sexually based advertising is harder to avoid than to find. I won't even get started on the increasingly dangerous sexually permissive message being pushed into public schools.

Who would admonish these young people for wishing to avoid the disastrous consequences of going the way of MTV?

Frisco's Board of Supervisors, that's who. They issued a statement calling the rally an "act of provocation...[meant to] negatively influence the politics of America's most tolerant and progressive city." Assemblyman Mark Leno called the young participants "disgusting" and said, "They should get out of San Francisco."

Hm...We're the most tolerant city in America. You Christian kids are disgusting; get out.

That’s not surprising. “Gay” activists usually lose at the ballot box. Historically, they have scored most of their gains through unelected courts.

What is surprising is Linell’s warped electoral math. (CNSNews.com) - One of the nation's largest homosexual advocacy groups has named a political activist as the first heterosexual co-chair of its board of directors.

The Human Rights Campaign has appointed Michael Berman -- president and one of the founders of the Duberstein Group, a government affairs consulting organization -- the "first straight board leader" in the HRC's history, according to a press release.

"This choice sends a strong message that the fight for equality can unite all fair-minded Americans," said HRC Board Co-Chair Gwen Baba.

"As an ally to the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community, Mike Berman brings a unique and needed perspective to the Human Rights Campaign," Baba added."Straight Americans are a crucial part of the fight for equality. Mike is one of those leaders and will do an exceptional job bringing more Americans to the table."

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)--Doug Hattaway, a prominent spokesman for Al Gore during the 2000 presidential campaign, tied the knot recently in Massachusetts with his longtime homosexual partner.

Hattaway "married" Massachusetts state Sen. Jarrett Barrios in mid-November, making the couple perhaps the most prominent male homosexual couple in America to "marry" legally.

In May Massachusetts became the first state to legalize same-sex "marriage" -- due solely to a court order.

Hattaway and Barrios exchanged vows at First Parish Church, a Unitarian Universalist church in Cambridge, Mass. The reception was held at the Episcopal Divinity School, also in Cambridge, according to the Cambridge Chronicle.

Their two adopted sons -- ages 7 and 12 -- were ring bearers.

ACLU changes course, will argue for Ore. civil unions

PORTLAND, Ore. – After Oregonians voted to ban same-sex marriages this month, a gay rights advocate has given up its fight to take its case to the state's supreme court, activists said yesterday.

The American Civil Liberties Union will instead argue for legal civil unions between same-sex couples that give them the same rights and benefits as married couples.

"This changes our case in only one way. We are no longer seeking marriage," said Ken Choe, an ACLU attorney who will argue the Oregon case. "But we do believe the Oregon Constitution requires equality with respect to the protections that come with marriage

The Kennebec Journal in Augusta, Maine, reports that Colby College's guest speaker, Episcopal Bishop Vicky Gene Robinson, denounced the just-re-elected President Bush: "It's astounding that Bush won't admit that he's done anything wrong (on Iraq)."

Reported the Journal: "Poking fun at 11 states voting to ban gay marriage at the polls, Robinson said, 'I am thankful that heterosexual marriage is now protected.'

"But he turned serious when aiming a broadside at an undefined 'religious right.'

Was Gay Marriage Kerry's Undoing?

Was gay marriage Kerry's undoing?
By Joan Vennochi, Globe Columnist | November 4, 2004

IN THE END, Massachusetts did come back to haunt John Kerry.

Just a year ago, justices of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court ruled that same-sex couples have the legal right to marry. George W. Bush is thanking them today.

That is the new conventional wisdom about why Kerry lost to Bush. Unfair it may be, but in the aftermath of defeat, some Democrats directly blame Margaret Marshall, chief justice of the Supreme Judicial Court, for creating the perfect storm: unleashing a highly divisive issue that turned out a passionate Republican voter base in critical states just in time for the 2004 presidential election.

Same-Sex Marriage Issue Key to Some G.O.P. Races

Same-Sex Marriage Issue Key to Some G.O.P. Races
By JAMES DAO

OLUMBUS, Ohio, Nov. 3 - Proposed state constitutional amendments banning same-sex marriage increased the turnout of socially conservative voters in many of the 11 states where the measures appeared on the ballot on Tuesday, political analysts say, providing crucial assistance to Republican candidates including President Bush in Ohio and Senator Jim Bunning in Kentucky.

The amendments, which define marriage as between only a man and a woman, passed overwhelmingly in all 11 states, clearly receiving support from Democrats and independents as well as Republicans. Only in Oregon and Michigan did the amendment receive less than 60 percent of the vote.

But the ballot measures also appear to have acted like magnets for thousands of socially conservative voters in rural and suburban communities who might not otherwise have voted, even in this heated campaign, political analysts said. And in tight races, those voters - who historically have leaned heavily Republican - may have tipped the balance.

Fla. race for U.S. Senate gains Dobson’s attention

http://www.bpnews.net/bpnews.asp?ID=19447

Nov 1, 2004
By James A. Smith Sr.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (BP)--Christian radio talk show host James Dobson has entered the political fray of the too-close-to-call race for Florida’s open U.S. Senate seat.

In a letter sent to Florida voters, Dobson highlights policy position differences on abortion and “gay marriage” of Democrat Betty Castor and Republican Mel Martinez, the main contenders to replace retiring Sen. Bob Graham. The letter came in the midst of the closing days of the increasingly bitter race which may affect the balance of political power in the U.S. Senate.

Dobson’s letter is sponsored by Focus on the Family Action, the newly organized political action group founded by the evangelical leader this year to allow him to take a more active role in politics and public policy advocacy. Action is a non-tax exempt organization and is separate from Focus on the Family, the tax-exempt nonprofit organization which sponsors Dobson’s radio program heard daily on hundreds of Christian radio stations across the nation.

“For more than 27 years, I have dedicated myself to strengthening families, but never in that time has this institution faced such direct and serious attack,” Dobson writes. “That’s why I’m looking to the good people of Florida for help at this critical time.”

Researcher: Kerry's Statements on Homosexuality Misleading

"[John] Kerry's views, unfortunately, present a view of homosexuality that research does not support." -- Dr. Warren Throckmorton, sexual orientation change researcher

A psychologist and counselor says John Kerry's view of homosexuality is wrong, having been swayed by a culture that's equally wrong.

It was during the third and final presidential debate between the Massachusetts senator and President George W. Bush that the candidates were asked if they believe homosexuality is a choice. While the president admitted he did not know -- a stance consistent with current scientific research -- the Democratic candidate took what many consider to be the politically correct position.

"I think if you talk to anybody, it's not choice," Kerry answered on October 13. "I've met people who struggled with this for years, people who were in a marriage because they were living a sort of convention, and they struggled with it. And I've met wives who are supportive of their husbands or vice versa when they finally sort of broke out and allowed themselves to live who they were, who they felt God had made them. I think we have to respect that."

Among the lowest of points in the presidential campaign so far were the calculated efforts by the Kerry/Edwards ticket to exploit the privacy of the Vice President Cheney's daughter for political gain.

In a poll, more than two-thirds of Americans judged Kerry's debate tactic abusive and inappropriate.

Any doubts about whether the rhetorical jabs were calculated were dispelled when Kerry campaign manager Mary Beth Cahill said that the Vice President's daughter was "fair game

Nothing caused more turmoil this summer in the U.S. Senate than the debate over the Federal Marriage Amendment. The phones rang continuously in every Senate office as impassioned citizens voiced their opinions on both sides of the issue.
What happened? Well, the first constitutional amendment of the 108th Congress to come to the floor without going through committee was never actually put to a vote.

Fifty voters or half of the senate cast their ballots against even having a vote on it, while 48 voted for it. This falls below the 60 who must first agree to have a vote on the bill itself, not to mention the 67 that have to vote for it in order for it to pass.

Now 50 plus 48 equals 98. Ok, so that means that two of our esteemed senators, in whom we place more power than any elected official, save the commander in chief, chose not to exercise their right to vote.

(CNSNews.com) - If her husband is elected president, Teresa Heinz Kerry "pledges to make gay tolerance a centerpiece of her First Lady duties," an online media company reported.

In an exclusive interview with PlanetOut -- which describes itself as a gay media company -- Mrs. Kerry made a distinction between sex and sexuality.

She told PlanetOut's senior political correspondent Chris Bull, "A lot of people, particularly those of the more fundamentalist view, think of homosexuality as a sex thing rather than a sexuality thing. They are really very different."

Kerry Silent on Ex-Gays Rights
Tuesday, October 19, 2004 -
NEWS RELEASE
October 20, 2004

WASHINGTON DC -- Presidential candidate John Kerry has come out in favor of gay rights in almost all aspects of the law and American society, including gay adoption and Social Security marital benefits. (See Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Proclamation by Kerry on Democratic National Committee website at http://www.democrats.org/glbt/news/200406070002.html). Kerry’s wife, Teresa Heinz, has now said that she would focus on “gay tolerance” as First Lady.

In his first interview with the gay press on September 9, Kerry declared that the “presidency is the power of the bully pulpit to some degree,” and that he would “fight” to provide federal benefits through civil unions, and for gay partnership rights and tax code treatment rights. Kerry also asserted that he would pass hate crimes and anti-discrimination “sexual orientation” legislation. He pointed out that he was only one of 14 Senators who voted against President Clinton’s Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and considered DOMA to be “gay bashing.”

But according to Regina Griggs, executive director of Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays & Gays (PFOX), Kerry has been strangely quiet on the issue of equal treatment for former homosexuals. Said Griggs, “What about ex-gay rights? Does Kerry support equal access to the public forum for ex-gays? Does he support the inclusion of former homosexuals in the hate crimes bill that he would pass as President?”

Last May during Ex-Gay Lobby Days on Capitol Hill, members of the ex-gay community related personal stories of the outright hate and discrimination they experience as former homosexuals. PFOX asked the Senate offices of John Kerry and John Edwards to support a resolution on tolerance for ex-gays. See photo at http://www.earnedmedia.org/edwards.htm). “The resolution calls for Congress to condemn intolerance against ex-gays and to affirm its commitment to a society that respects all people, including former homosexuals,” said Griggs. “Now who could be opposed to that? The resolution costs taxpayers nothing to implement because it is only an affirming statement.”

To date, neither Kerry nor Edwards has supported the resolution. “Does Kerry agree with gay activist groups that ‘sexual orientation’ only includes gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgenders, but not former homosexuals?” asked Griggs. “Favoring homosexuals over ex-gays is discriminatory. It also defeats diversity and the goal of full inclusion in American society. Mr. Kerry, the ex-gay community wants to know where you stand.”

Gay Marriage Issue Motivates Conservatives

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20041018/ap_on_el_pr/election_gay_marriage&cid=694&ncid=716

WASHINGTON - Gay marriage is emerging as a big enough issue in several states to influence races both for Congress and the presidency.

Ballot initiatives on banning same-sex marriages are expected to propel social conservatives to the polls in 11 states, including four presidential battlegrounds: Arkansas, Ohio, Michigan and Oregon.

The topic also is a prominent issue in Oklahoma, South Dakota and North and South Carolina, all states with close Senate contests.

An independent group has run an ad in South Dakota, where Senate Democratic leader Tom Daschle is in a tight race, saying Daschle "refuses to protect marriage; he would let liberal activist judges redefine it."
